Hey Everyone!
Been a while. But can you blame us? Just as we get in the swing of season 2, Bungie decides to release a game called Halo: Reach. Apparently its really fun and really popular and it's sucking up all our free time (enter sarcastic grin here). But also, we've been waiting on some audio from new cast members who don't live in Idaho with us. Things are coming along, and the next episode will be coming to an Internet near you. We are loving season 2, because we are getting to use more sets than just Blackout. Kind of got depressing just filming in this dark dark map for a while. Release date you ask? Well most of you know the answer to that: when its done, its done.

On a different note not related to Forecast or Halo, in fact not even to video games. A local film company here in our area is working on making a film called "Saving Council". They have a great idea how to save America by saving Council. Council is a small city here in Idaho that has really been effected bad by the down turn of the economy. The way we can all help is by pledging money to donate to this project, help a struggling city and fund a movie at the same time- possibly get your name in the credits of the movie. Just an update for everyone out there: Episode 11 is in production and looks like it should be coming out soon. What day you ask? That I don't know. I'd hate to give a firm date right now and then get eaten alive by the internet for not making the deadline. The internet is a scary place. Anyways, it's in full swing and I filmed some fun stuff last night. I'll post more updates as they come, maybe a picture or two to keep you hungry.

If you haven't yet, you should head on over to Smooth Few Films and start watching all of their episodes to the hilarious show, Web Zeroes. They just released their 24th episode.

However, our friends over at Smooth Few had to come to a tough decision and episode 25 will be their Series finale. This show will definetly be missed, but we can all bank on that their next idea or show will be just as awesome. Let's send them out with a bang!

I've come to the decision to get rid of the What Zoom Sees blog site. The only time we'd ever update it would be when we posted a new Zoom video. But since you all know to look for the video every week, we are going to stop posting there and toss out the page. However, we will post links on the Zoom Video tab on the top of this page, it will direct you to a page that has links to every single Zoom video. Vol. 1 is of course for Season 1 and Vol. 2 is for Season 2.

If we were to set up a new forum, I'm going to need some volunteers to help create, moderate, and basically run the forum. As it stands right now, I'd love to spend all my time looking over the forums but I'd rather (and I'm sure you would as well) spend my time producing new episodes for Season 2. So with that, I'm calling for experienced volunteers who been a moderator or have created a forum before. Comment or send me an email if interested- preferably with a link to something you have worked on. However, if we don't have a big response on the poll on whether or not to start up a new forum, we won't. Enjoy your Monday.

It's been a long while and by the comments and emails we've been getting I figure now is a good time to let everyone know what's going on with Forecast Season 2. I've been completely preoccupied with tons of projects on my plate that obviously don't revolve around Machinima. But, with in the next couple weeks, those projects should be wrapped and we'll get crankin' full steam on Season 2. You can expect to see another teaser for season 2 in this time also. Thanks for all of you sticking around (and begging) for the Second Season. We appreciate all your support, its the only reason we want to keep making Forecast. Brief Update

After many emails and messages, I figured I owed you guys an update with whats going on in our lives and with Season 2. Trust me when I say, Season 2 will come out. Have no fear, we aren't going to end up like some machinimas out there that left you wanting more but have never continued the series. We are working (slowly) on Season 2, but the truth of the matter is: life happens. When life happens, other things have to be put on hold for the time being.

Originally we were only taking a 6 month break from Forecast, during which time we'd write Season 2. We'll we did write Season 2 but since June my wife and I got married, we bought a house, and a whole bunch of other stuff has happened. You will see Season 2, we won't leave you all hanging. We thank you all for sticking with us through all of this. We've actually seen a rise in subscribers since Season 1 ended, which is exciting for us because more and more people are enjoying the series (which gets us itching to continue Season 2 production).

Hang in there with us, and trust us...we want Season 2 to premiere just as bad as you guys.

Droppings to Commence

The final countdown has began. In less than 85 hours (give or take a few depending on your time zone) people from all over the nation will be driving back to their homes with the biggest smile on their face and precious cargo buckled in the front seat. The same giddiness they felt on the release of its predecessors, will be revisited on this night (or early morning). We've all prepared and at Midnight on the 22nd we'll all finally be able to Drop.

Halo 3: ODST will finally hit stores allowing Halo fans across the globe to suit up as a new character in the ever increasing cannon that is the Halo Universe. There are a ton of reviews from people all over the interwebs who got a small grocery store sample of what the ODST (and Fire Fight) experience will be like. Is it any surprise that everyone that has put their hands on this game (for probably no more than 15 minutes) has loved it? I am very excited.

I, like many out there, am taking Tuesday off of work just so I can wait in line at my local Game Stop to pick up my preorder copy...and then proceed to play all day. My wife just chuckles at me with how pumped I am for this game and the fact I'm taking a day off just to play. But in the immortal words of Rhett Butler, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

So if you find your self in the wonderful world of "Live" next Tuesday, let play some Fire Fight or make our way through ODST campaign. For those of you in our Nampa area, come say hi to us at Game Stop and chat it up as we all wait for our chance to Drop. See you online.

Voice Contest Update

All of you who shared your interest in the Voice Contest will receive an email or You Tube Message from us this afternoon with the audition line. If you are interested in participating in the contest and did not get an email from us it is because either we didn't get your email or a link to your YouTube page to contact you...or you didn't tell us you'd like to participate to begin with. If you fall into one of these categories, email us with your email or YouTube page so we can message you. We'll update the community on the results of the contest once all entries have been sent in and we've listened to all of them. No one will be turned away if they wish to try out, all are welcome!

What's This? A Voice Contest?

So as production for Season 2 slowly continues (I emphasize slow), I wanted to let you all know of a chance that your very own voice could be in an episode of Season 2. That's right, you could voice a small character in Forecast! I can't tell you what episode (yet) you'd be in or any details to what the line(s) would be right now.

All we're looking for right now is to collect of list of names and contact info (either email, twitter, myspace or youtube accounts) of those interested. In the coming weeks I will then contact those interested with a line we'd like you to record and then send back to us for review. You can send back just an audio file, or make it a little more creative and post your audition on YouTube for all to judge. We will listen to (or watch) every sample sent to us and pick the best performance.

Between now and when I contact those interested, feel free to send us either samples of voice work that you have done, machinima you have been part of (and telling us who you voiced), or pretty much anything else informing us of what would make you stand out over everyone else.

So send us those emails, comments, a twitter message, or whatever to let us know you'd like to participate in the voice contest. There will be no age, gender or experience restrictions, we are just looking for the best performance to fit the character. More info will come in the coming weeks.

A Change of Sorts

Well I've spent the better part of the last few hours rearranging the layout of the site. As you can see we've gone from a 2 column format to a 3 column format (who know I could learn a little html code in a short period of time). We've also added a new banner for the page featuring Craig and Eugene, along with our new logo that most of you should remember from the Season 2 Teaser.

The logo was created by a friend of mine named Matt Janzen. He's a phenomenal artist who used to work out in Seattle for a video game company. Jump on over to his website and have a look at some of the characters he is currently working on.

Wow, how long has it been?

Sorry for the absentee lately everyone. As you know last month I got married and for the last month my wife and I have been spending every waking hour working on the new house we just bought. The last owners didn't keep the house in very good condition. The inside needed tons of cleaning and painting, and our yard looked very much like the yard on Malcom in the Middle (no joke). But I'm happy to say we are getting things well under control, but not all the way yet. And we finally have internet at our house too. So I'll be more active with the website, twitter, You Tube, or wherever else we are at on the web. And hopefully be jumping on Xbox Live for a little Halo 3. I'll be a little rusty, I haven't played since the beginning of June!

However, alot of you have been asking me when Season 2 will begin. As I can't give a firm date as to its release, please know that we are still working on it and you will see the premier soon, I promise.

Its good to know people are still enjoying Season One. Keep sending us the emails and messages. Thanks for all your support!

Season 2 Update

Hey everyone,
It's been over 2 months since I've posted anything, and I thought now would be a good time to let you all in on what's going on with Season 2 of Forecast. The last few months we've been working the plot and all the different story lines going on with Season 2. We had a multitude of ideas to go through. I can't tell you how many little notes I have scattered all over my desk with idea after idea written on them.

But the good news to all of this is that we are finally at the writing stage and have begun writing the actual episodes. And as of today I'm happy to announce episode 1 is completely written. We are starting on episode 2 today.

We've got some good stuff in store for you this next season, and I can guarantee that you'll laugh during the season premiere. Talk to you all later!

In the Year 2009...

Happy New Year everyone! I can't believe that 2008 is already over. What a crazy Year its been. I hope you all are having a good time tonight and are being safe if you're out and about. Most of us from Season One are hanging out at my house having an awesome time right now playing Rock Band.

New things will come in 2009. We'll have a new President, Halo: ODST will be released, but most importantly Season Two of Forecast will be coming out! Although we've been done with the first season for just a couple of days, we're already planning on the story for Season Two. It'll be a jungle of ideas to filter through, but we promise you won't want to miss it (whenever the release may be).

Thanks again, to all of you, for making this a great year for us. Enjoy your first day of 2009, I'm sure I'll spend mine sleeping in.

Tonight starting at 7:00pm EST, the guys over at Halo3Mythbusters.com are putting a little show called Halo Community Live. Think of SNL but made by the Halo Community. The show will consist of some machinima shorts, interviews with the big names in the community, and much more. The show is pre-recorded but will stream live on a website called Mogulus.com. Some of the names that should be making appearances on the show are Darkspire Films, Bryan Simon, Halo 3 Mythbusters, ForgeHub, The DuoGroup, and of course yours truly Young Street Productions (its an interview I had with them). The good thing about mogulus.com is that you don't have to register or anything like that, it's very easy to use. Plus, there is a chat room so you can see and talk with all who is watching the show. So, at 7:00pm EST (that's 4pm EST for those of you on the West Coast), the show will start. It'll be a good time, you'll definitely see me in the chat room.

Christmas Time!

Merry Christmas everyone! Well, I hope you all got everything you wanted this year. Anyone get an XBOX 360 and Halo 3 this year? Well if you did and also got Xbox Live, let me know, maybe we can get some big custom games going this weekend.

Well as you all know by now, Epsiode 8 is out. If you didn't know that, then you need to stop what you are doing right now and watch it. Now hopefully after watching the episode you all saw our announcement that Episode 9 is coming out next week and that it'll be our Forecast Season Finale. We will be taking a break for a little while, recovering from Season One, start the writing process for Season 2, relaxing and playing some Halo for fun not just for work.

I'm guessing that our vacation will be about 6 months, but we'll try to make a few shorts to hold you over until Season 2 premiers. Don't worry, we'll be working on Season 2 during our time off, episodes just won't be released for a while. I don't have an official date when the first Episode of Season 2 will be online, but we'll continue to give you updates here on what to expect.

The exciting conclusion to Season 1 of Forecast the Series will be released the morning of December 29, it'll be a great way to end 2008. Now, I'm going back to eating my body weight in dessert! Merry Christmas!

So the news you all have been wanting to hear...Episode 8 will be released sometime next week, before Christmas. Many of you have probably seen me online in custom games in Halo 3, which would mean I'm busy working on the episode. However, don't let that stop you from sending me invites to play with you. I'd love to play Halo online, whether it be custom or matchmaking, with any of our viewers. If I don't respond to your invite, don't let that get you down, it just means I'm working on the episode. With that said, I will be making some time this weekend, away from the episode, to play some Halo 3 online. So send me those invites!

Filming is continuing tonight on episode 8. Things are moving along quite well. Many of you have sent me messages wondering when the next episode is out, and all I can say is it'll be out when its done. We don't want to rush the production of the episode, especially since we are now getting extremely close to the season finale. But don't worry, we aren't going to take so long on the episode that it'll be the New Year before you see some more Forecast. I can guarantee that it'll be out in the next few weeks. And on a positive note, you'll see the season finale before we ring in the new year. December will be an exciting time for Forecast viewers. I'm hoping to be able to upload a few screen shots to hold your Forecast appetite for a bit.

So I've been getting a few entries to the music contest this week and they all are songs performed and recorded by bands that are famous (like Sum 41 and Linkin Park). Just to clarify, the contest is for you and/or your band to create an original piece of work to roll with the credits at the end of the season. The Duo Group is an extremely talent group (consists of 3 guys, a 3 man duo?) who produce trailers, short films, and other various products. I'm sure some of you already have seen their trailer for Without Providence. If you haven't, it'll sure make you smile at it's awesomeness. Tale of Woe

So I've got some bad news. Last night while playing on my XBOX 360, the game started freezing. I turned it off, and then after a bit turned it on. All seemed to be okay. I started to play again and after a bit, the game froze again. I thought it might be the game so I shut it off and then turned it on again and tried to eject the game. The game ejected fine but the box froze on the 360 logo when you first turn it on. After a few more failed attempts, I got the dreaded...RING OF DEATH!!!

I've made the proper arrangements for Microsoft to fix it (or just send me one that works). But the sad part is I will be without a 360 for about 3 weeks. Maybe I can consider myself lucky that it's taken this long for my XBOX to get the R.O.D. (I got it a couple month after it's release). So with that said, the filming and editing side of production for the next episode is put on hold until a working XBOX comes back. We will continue polishing the script and have all dialog recorded so we are ready to go by the time it's back. You may now shower me with your pity.

Call for Entries: End Credit Music Contest

We are calling for entries in the first ever Forecast Music Contest. What we are looking for is a song to be featured during the end credits of Season One. The season will end on an awesome note, so naturally the ending song has got to follow suit. I don't know how long the credits will be, but we should probably guess around at least 2 minutes. There won't be many guidelines for your entry because I want you to be able to utilize all your musical creativity without being too restrictive.

All we ask is that the song feel like it belongs to Forecast. It can be rock, hip hop, techno, etc., have lyrics or be just instrumental, whatever; the song just needs to be awesome! Now some have suggested that you take the small bits of music we have in our episodes and incorporate them in the song. You can do that, I think its a great idea but you don't have too. I won't hold it against you if I don't hear a single note from our small music pieces.

Here's how you can submit your entry. You can either email the song to me (.mp3, .wav, or any other format that may work), post it on a hosting site yourself and give me the link, record yourself (or your band) performing the song and put the video on YouTube (which I think is an awesome idea) and tell me where to find the video. As long as I can hear a decent quality version of the song, any way you get it to me is fine.

The deadline for the entries is 4 weeks from today. So on November 28th, all entries must be in to me. At that point I will pick the top 5 entries and post the artist/band's name here on the website. If you make the top 5, and you haven't sent me a high quality version of the song (either through email or from a place I can download it) you'll need to do so with in 3 days of me posting the names of the top 5 entries. You will then find out who the winner is once the season finale is released shortly after that. We will also feature the winner on our site with links to their website, MySpace, Face Book, whatever you may have to help promote yourselves.

Eventually we will come to the finale of the first season of Forecast (not able to say when that is yet). When we are at that stage of the finale, we will have credits for the entire season played at the end of the last episode. Now my thought was to get with a couple of buddies of mine who produce music and have them pump out a song for the credits, but then it crossed my mind that we could possibly have a contest for anyone to produce and record a song to be featured as the end credit song for Season One.

I don't have any details on what the rules and guidelines would be, because right now I just want to get a feel from all of you if that would be something that you'd take part in. So, I set up a poll (move your eyes a few inches to the right of this blog) for you to vote whether or not this contest would be of interest to the Forecast community. This may be a great way to draw some more attention to your band (or yourself if you are a single artist). Let me know what you think by using the poll, even comment on this post or email me.

Well its almost been 48 hours since the release of episode 7 and I can't believe how well received this episode was. In less than 36 hours, the video reached over 1,000, in which it took episode 6 one week to accomplish. I'm glad everyone is loving the shot of Timmy on the base from the "Big Bang" short.

Also, Nic (Dirt410) who designed the website header (seen above) has designed the look of our MySpace page. If you haven't been there check it out and send us a friend request. Oh and one thing about the header I have to mention, my favorite part is the faint image of Timmy's helmet in the background...awesome!

To those of you waiting on edge for it, the next episode of Forecast will be out in the next couple of days. I had to do some re-working of a scene which would ultimately play a part in the season's finale. What are the odds that I was going to introduce an "EMP" device in episode 7 (which was written almost 2 and half weeks ago), the same week RVB Reconstruction's chapter 18 talked about using an EMP to take down the Meta. For my sake, I'm re writing some stuff- I'm not going to have come this far with the series to only be seem like I'm copying RVB.

Meet the Voices

We've been doing the series now for almost 5 months now. We've been exploring this world of Forecast, meeting all kinds of characters. But one thing we've never shown to the public is who the voices of each character are and who all is involved with the making of each episode. So with out further ado, I introduce to you the voices of Forecast.

Tyler Gunstream - Voice of Craig, Scooter, Zoom, Erwin, and miscellaneous characters

Forecast the Series is the brain child of Tyler, aka Gunny to most. Having gone to film school and made a handful of films himself, he decided to try his hand at machinima. Knowing full well he may fail on an epic proportion, Tyler originally wrote only 2 episodes of Forecast with the thought that if people liked it, he'd make more but if not he'd bow out gracefully. To his surprise, Forecast started to become a little more popular and so he came up with a story for the rest of the season. He voices 4 of the main characters in the series along with some miscellaneous characters such as Timmy in Episode 2. Along with being one of the voice actors, Tyler writes, directs, produces, films, and edits each episode himself.

Jeff Dillbeck - Voice of Eugene

Jeff is a good friend and neighbor of Tyler's. Tyler came to him last May with the idea of a Halo 3 machinima and the proposal for Jeff to voice a character. Jeff gladly accepted. On an episode basis, Jeff comes in to record his dialog for Eugene giving a different take on each line. Although Tyler writes each script, Jeff is credited as a consultant on each episode helping tweak the jokes to hopefully bring out more hilarity. The line of Eugene's everyone loves from episode 2 (I feel safer since they fired Timmy) is actually an ad-lib Jeff came up with while recording that episode. Jeff brings a great dynamic to Eugene, which plays great off the other characters.

Hopefully this sheds a little light on us, our 2 man band behind Forecast the Series and Young Street Productions. It always helps to put a face with a name, but in this case- a voice.

Hey everyone,
I'm here to announce today our first ever contest with Forecast and Young Street Productions! The header for our site (that thing on the top of the page), the one that you've all come to know and love, is getting kind of old and I think its time for a change.

We are looking for all talented Photoshopers (or whatever program you use) out there to create a new header for the website. The header needs to be 660 x 332 pixels, contain at least the main cast from the first few episodes, include the show title and website address. You can send the image as a high quality .jpg or .png.

So gather all the knowledge you know about Forecast thus far and create a new header that could be displayed on our website. We will sift through all of the entries and the one we absolutely love the most will become the new header of the site, the winner will also be linked on our site to any web page, You Tube Channel, etc. that they run, and we'll set your name in the end credits of episode 7!

All entries must be emailed to us at youngstreetproductions@gmail.com with the subject line of "Forecast Header Contest" and turned in by October 7, 2008 no later than 7:00pm Mountain Time. Any entry that doesn't contain that subject line will be deleted without consideration. If you have any questions regarding what armor each character has or what weapons they have, or any other small details you need, feel free to email me anytime at youngstreetproductions@gmail.com. Every participant can submit up to 5 different entries if they wish. Have fun with it, we're excited to see what you all come up with.

Our good friends over at Smooth Few Films have launched their new website. For those of you who don't know, SFF are the creators of one of my favorite machinimas "The Leet World". In addition to TLW (and it's upcoming second season), Smooth Few are also working on a Halo 3 series called "G.R.I.E.F." and a live action series, "Web Zeroes". Well it's been a while since I've posted any kind of message here and its been a while since you all have had a new Forecast episode. Never fear, episode 6 is in the works. We are hoping to record dialog sometime this week with hopes of filming by week's end.

I've been super busy with vacations these last few weeks, relaxing, and getting engaged. Yep that's right, I popped the old question. So hopefully you all can understand I've been busy with all of those plans lately.

Despite not having a new episode in the last few weeks (even month), you guys are still loyal and are sending us some great message. But now, by the tone of some of them you are all tired of waiting for a new episode. I am currently working on finalizing the script, making sure we don't disappoint. If there are some things you might want to see in a future episode, feel free to comment here or send us an email. We've already have got a few good ones that will probably make it into an episode soon.

What do you expect...its Summer

Well it's been about two weeks since episode 5 was released. We've been working on episode 6 and a few other things that we can't wait to show you all. However, with that said...it's Summer, expect some delays. Although we have been hard working on episode 6, we've been taking some time off, some of us have gone on trips, but all in all we've just been trying to breathe. With having a full time job, working on "Forecast", other projects, and trying to have a personal life at the same time can make things a little busy for us. With that said, episode 6 will eventually be out be we ask that you please be patient. Just a few more weeks and all our vacations are done (I have one coming up in a week). Don't worry, we haven't forgotten about you all. So in the meantime you can comment here, on our You Tube, email, or join the forums to tell us how much you still love us. Have a great Friday, make sure you play lots of Halo- oh and if you are the only one in the country who was a moron and didn't go see 'The Dark Knight', I suggest you do so; you won't regret it.

Just want to give you a heads up on the 5th episode. Normally our episodes have been coming out every 2 weeks on Saturday. However, with this week being the 4th and all, we've had some family in town and haven't had much time to complete the episode. The good news is audio is recorded and filming will continue tomorrow. Movin' Along

Well we are now writing the script for Episode 5. We spent the few nights talking about what's going in this episode. The script should be finished within the next day or so and we will then begin recording dialog.

Thanks to everyone who's been watching the Series and to those who have subscribed to the You Tube Channel. Since Episode 4 came out, we've seen a crazy amount of increase in activity and views. Much of which is due to our friends over at Smooth Few Films, creators of The Leet World. If you haven't seen them, check them out. Their first season is coming to a wrap soon, with part 2 of 3 of the finale being released sometime this week. It's sure to be an awesome episode.

I've been asked by some of you to share what hardware, software, etc. that I use in making these episodes, so here's the skinny. The computer that I use is a 24-inch iMac, Intel Core 2 Duo, OSX 10.4.1.1 and 500 GB of memory. I record dialog using a Logitech Desktop USB mic, its not the highest grade mic out there, but it still does a wonderful job. And for $20, you can go wrong.

Since I work with a Mac, it took me a while to find a Analog/Digital converter to be able to capture footage from the game to my computer. If you're working with a PC, you have more options at your fingertips some of which are a pretty decent price. I'm using a converter box called Director's Cut which is made by a company that no longer exists (Power-R). I think they were bought out by Miglia because there is a similar product called Director's Cut Take 2. I lucked out and found this on eBay for about $15, when it normally retailed for around $200. The best part is, it runs through FireWire (which works best on Macs).

I also run audio out to a Sony 4 speaker stereo and the video out to a 14" preview monitor.

The programs I use are Adobe Photoshop CS2 (for any titles or pictures of the like), Soundtrack Pro 1.5 (for recording dialog, cut together Sound Effects/Music), and Final Cut Express HD 3.5 (for editing it all together). And although I use Final Cut Express HD, I am not capturing in HD or exporting in HD. HD requires loads of memory, and I'm not in the market to starting my own Terabyte farm just yet.

Here's a picture of my setup we took while working on Episode 2. Some parts are a little dark, but it'll give you a general idea of what we are working with.

Filming started last night and is well under way. Much discussion of some jokes in the 4th episode resulted in a few minutes of laughing, followed by expanding a few scenes. The last few days, we've seen an enormous increase in activity both with the site and the You Tube Channel. So for all those new comers, welcome! Dialog is currently being recorded for the third episode. After we started recording, we decided to add and change some things with the script.
